City seemed poised for their third consecutive Premier League win since October after Phil Foden's second-half brace gave them a comfortable 2-0 lead.
However, the Bees refused to back down, with Yoane Wissa reducing the deficit and Christian Norgaard heading in the equaliser in the dying minutes.
The result left City manager Pep Guardiola visibly agitated. In a peculiar display on the pitch, he was seen in an intense exchange with goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, potentially critiquing the handling of Norgaard's header.
Despite his frustration, Guardiola repeatedly embraced Ortega, creating a confusing contrast in his demeanour.
The manager was also involved in serious discussions with Josko Gvardiol and Savinho post-match.
Speaking later, Guardiola clarified that he had not scolded his players despite appearances, instead focusing on the need to improve in key moments.
"I was satisfied, we're talking one action," said Guardiola.
"The same with Ortega, I said how good he played in the actions with the ball, had good passes to Erling [Haaland], how happy and satisfied I am, especially with these two players with what they have done."
The draw keeps Manchester City sixth in the Premier League table after 21 matches. With their title aspirations under pressure, the team will look to bounce back when they face Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Sunday.
