The Chloorkop side is the most successful team in the women’s elite league, having won five titles consecutively since inception.
Speaking to SABC Sport, Matjekane says access to adequate resources has helped the team to be far ahead of others in the league.
"Yes, they've dominated over the years back-to-back because good teams, it's one of the best teams in South Africa and good teams obviously attract good players. Good players would want to go to the best teams, so, that's how it works and for the fact that they have resources, they have what it takes to attract some of these good players that we've seen in this league," Matjekane said.
The University of the Western Cape have been league runners-up for three seasons since 2022.
Matjekane says coach Thinasonke Mbuli’s charges have shown consistency above other teams with a potential to dethrone Sundowns in years to come.
"But also, I would like to see a more and more competitive league. Over the years we've seen Sundowns dominating the space but I think last year it was a very exciting time where we've seen some of these players, some of these teams having to challenge Sundowns,” she added.
“I was even proud of UWC having to qualify for the CAF Women's Champions League for the first time and they did pretty well."
