Pitso Mosimane eyeing return to international football

South Africa’s most successful football coach, Pitso Mosimane, is now more focused on landing a national team coaching job than returning to club football.

In an interview with SABC Sport, Mosimane has revealed that he’s taking his time to find his next move, and deliberately sifting through offers with more interest in a national team project.

The three-time CAF Champions League winner has been unemployed since leaving Saudi Arabian club Abha FC in June, and is keen to return to the FIFA World Cup stage.

"The World Cup I've done with a country was once, so maybe [my next job will be] with a national team. I must say that interests me more, but also, just because I say a national team, it doesn't mean I will go to anyone," said Mosimane.

"You want a national team that you think you can take to the semi-final [of the World Cup], and if you can go to the semi-final, you can go to the final, and when you get to the final, you might as well win it.

"So that's some of the things [we're considering] – unless it's a club, again, in the space that I think we need to play more in, like Saudi will always be there, Qatar will always be there."

The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly mentor has not entirely closed the door to a club project, but notes his interests may not peak by experiences he's already enjoyed – such as the CAF Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup.

"Velile, we always have a phone ringing, but sometimes – I don't know, do you want to do Champions League again? I'm not sure. Maybe, yes, when it's [a club] also part of the World Cup, maybe," he added.

"I'm also not trying to say something, but the [Club] World Cup I've also done four times, hey."
