Portsmouth sign Borussia Dortmund’s Abdoulaye Kamara

Borussia Dortmund have parted ways with Abdoulaye Kamara as he joins Championship side Portsmouth.

With the summer transfer window coming into its final phase, many clubs are looking to get some last-minute business done before their squads are set for at least the first half of the season. Borussia Dortmund is of course no different, and in their case, pending departures seem to be the next order of business for the club.

According to an official statement, the club has parted ways with defensive midfielder Abdoulaye Kamara. Kamara, who was previously very close to joining Bundesliga 2 side Greuther Fürth, now joins Championship side Portsmouth.

Kamara spent the vast majority of his time at Dortmund playing for the club's second team in the 3. Liga. The defensive midfielder chipped in with two goals and four assists across 48 appearances for the second team, but with a very congested first-team midfield, the player has not been able to make the jump to the first team. While there may be some outgoings still in Dortmund's midfield, young players such as Kjell Wätjen stand in his way of making any sort of impact, which makes the transfer a completely understandable move from the young player's perspective.

On Portsmouth's end, the club won promotion last year to the EFL Championship from the League One, which means the club is trying to establish itself in their new division. Time will tell just what sort of career the player ends up having, but the move for Kamara offers a new opportunity for the player to establish himself in a first-team environment in a way that was not possible at Dortmund.

The defensive midfielder initially joined Dortmund's academy from Paris Saint-Germain, which is known for the high quality of players it produces. There is every chance this move to Portsmouth will work out in Kamara's favor a reignite his young career.
