PSL clubs learn CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup fate

Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, and Stellenbosch FC have discovered their fate in the upcoming CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup group stages.

The draw, which took place at the Confederation of African Football headquarters in Cairo, saw Sundowns drawn in Group B and Pirates drawn in Group C.

The Brazilians will be up against Moroccan duo Raja Casablanca and AS FAR, as well as AS Maniema of DR Congro, while The Buccaneers have been pitted alongside Egyptian giants and record champions Al Ahly, CR Belouizdad of Algeria, and Stade d'Abidjan of Cote d'Ivoire.

The opening rounds of the group stages will commence on the weekend of 26-27 November, before the second round kicks off 3-4 January 2025.

Meanwhile, in the CAF Confederation Cup, Stellenbosch find themselves in Group B, up against RS Berkane of Morocco, Stade Malien of Mali, and CD Lunda Sul of Angola.

The Cape Winelands outfit, in their debut CAF inter-club season, will begin their group stage campaign on a similar timeline to that of Sundowns and Pirates, with the teams through to the knockout stages set to be determined by 19 January at the latest.

Elsewhere, South African-born coach Fadlu Davids is tasked with navigating Tanzanian giants Simba SC past CS Sfaxien of Tunisia, CS Constantine of Algeria, and FC Bravos di Maquis of Angola in Group A.
