Ndzingo, whose day job was being a policeman, was fatally gunned on Wednesday, 12 June in Khayelitsha, Cape Town.
âViolent Crime has robbed the sporting fraternity when football referee Akhona Ndzingo was gunned down in Khayelitsha last night,â Capeat6sport reported via Facebook.
âAkho, as he was affectionately known, was a member of Lingelethu LFA and officiated matches up to the profession level. MHSRIP.â
According to iDiski Times Ndzingo was killed while performing his police duties in Site B and unfortunately did not survive upon arrival at Khayelitsha Hospital.
âNdzingo, who also worked as a police officer, is reported to have been shot dead last night in Khayelitsha, Site B. The PSL referee was on duty as a police officer when a suspect shot him.
âA close person to the incident mentioned that he was rushed to Khayelitsha hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
âAkhona was one of the youngest PSL referees, making his debut aged 26. In 2016 he was named SAFA Cape Town Referee of the Year at the age of just 22,â the report concluded.
