Cape Town Spurs not giving up relegation fight after win over Amazulu
Cape Town Spurs recorded just their second league victory of the season after a 3-1 success over Amazulu at Athlone Stadium.
Chumani Butsaka gave the home side the lead in the 14th minute but Abbubaker Mobara equalised for Usuthu on the half-hour mark.
The Cape side however pulled clear in the second half as Ashley Cupido found the back of the net twice to give the hosts a precious win.
Cape Town Spurs are still deep in relegation trouble but will no doubt take great confidence from taking maximum points from the contest.
Sekhukhune push Richards Bay deeper into relegation trouble
Sehkuhkune United pushed Richards Bay deeper into relegation trouble with a 3-1 victory at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
The first half only saw one goal scored and it came from Linda Mntambo who gave the home side the lead in the 12th minute.
Richards Bay found a way back into the contest after the interval when Moses Mthembu found the back net just after the hour mark.
That was as good as it got for the visitors though as Sekhukhune struck twice in the final 20 minutes, first through a Chibuike Ohizu penalty and then Thamsanqa Masiya made sure of the points in stoppage-time.
Polokwane continue mini-resurgence with win over Moroka Swallows
Polokwane marked their return to league action with a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Moroka Swallows, who were without coach Steve Komphela.
This was Swallows' first match since being forced to forfeit fixtures against Sundowns and Golden Arrows due to strike action from the players.
Many of those players had their contracts terminated and have been replaced by new ones, but Swallows looked surprisingly solid despite fielding a much-changed side.
After a goalless first half in which Swallows held their own, Polokwane finally broke the deadlock just before the hour-mark when Mokibelo Ramabu latched onto a rebounded free-kick and fired home after goalkeeper
Daniel Akpeyi failed to deal with the initial effort. That goal proved enough to secure the visitors all three points.
The win sees interim coach Phuti Mohafe's men move up three places to seventh on the PSL table. Since Mohafe took over in December, Polokwane lost to Kaizer Chiefs but then bounced back with a win over Chippa United before coming away with an impressive draw at Mamelodi Sundowns and now the win over Swallows after the AFCON break.
Cape Town City up to second after hard-fought point at Chippa
Cape Town City moved up to second in the table after playing out a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Chippa United at the Buffalo City Stadium.
Despite a lack of sustained goal-mouth action, both teams displayed tactical prowess throughout the match.
The game saw moments of brilliance, with City's Jaedin Rhodes delivering a precise cross that was expertly converted by Khanyisa Mayo to give visitors the lead in the 23rd minute.
Mayo's attempt to double the lead was denied by the crossbar, allowing Chippa United to capitalize on a corner kick, with Elmo Kambindu heading in the equalizer in the 29th minute.
Despite Chippa's numerical disadvantage after Relebogile Mokhuoane received a second yellow card, both teams continued to push for a winner.
However, neither side could break the deadlock, and the match ended in a hard-fought 1-1 draw.
The result sees Cape Town City making significant strides in the league standings, highlighting their determination to compete at the highest level of South African football.
