Ramahlwe Mphahlele commits to another year with AmaZulu

AmaZulu captain Ramahlwe Mphahlele has put pen to paper on a new one-year contract to remain at the club, SABC Sport can confirm.

Usuthu have made a few changes to their playing personnel under coach Pablo Franco Martin, with the increasing expectation to do better ahead of the 2024/25 season.

The KwaZulu-Natal giants finished in 11th place last season – only six points above Richards Bay, who had to save their status through the promotion-relegation play-offs.

Mphahlele was one of several players out of contract and had been waiting for his future to be decided, following the departures of Veluyeke Zulu, George Maluleka, Augustine Kwem, and Victor Letsoalo.

But the public broadcaster now understands the defender and ex-Mamelodi Sundowns skipper is staying put after agreeing to a one-year extension, with an option to have it renewed for another season next year.

The 34-year-old was almost an ever-present at Usuthu, having managed a total 32 appearances across all competitions in Martin’s maiden campaign at the club.

His experienced is said to have been one of the reasons the hierarchy were more than happy to offer Mphahlele an extension to his stay.

Meanwhile, according to information gathered, AmaZulu have also signed Guinea international Boniface Haba, who plays as a winger, with the club set to unveil more arrivals in the coming days.
