RB Leipzig's Xavi Simons faces long injury layoff

RB Leipzig have confirmed that Dutch forward Xavi Simons sustained a serious ligament injury during their UEFA Champions League match against Liverpool, which ended in a 1-0 defeat.

The 21-year-old attacker was forced to leave the pitch after just 36 minutes and was unable to walk off unaided, raising immediate concerns about the severity of his condition.

In a statement released the following day, Leipzig revealed that Simons would be sidelined for several weeks as he recovers from the injury.

There is speculation that he may need surgery, especially if the syndesmosis is involved, similar to his teammate David Raum, who is not expected to return until next year.

Simons' injury is a significant blow to Leipzig, marking him as the fourth player to suffer a major setback this season, joining Raum, Xaver Schlager, and Assan Ouedraogo on the injury list.

Although Simons has had a slow start this season, his absence will force the club to rely on alternatives like Christoph Baumgartner and Eljif Elmas, who have yet to find their form.

The team face a challenging period ahead as they navigate the remainder of the campaign without one of their promising talents.
