Real Madrid ramp up push for Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold

Real Madrid are intensifying efforts to secure the signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold during the January transfer window, with club officials convinced that immediate defensive reinforcements are essential.

After their recent 5-2 defeat to Barcelona and ongoing concerns about defensive depth, discussions at Valdebebas have focused on potential solutions, with Alexander-Arnold emerging as the top target.

An initial proposal was made to Liverpool last month, but the Merseyside club rejected it outright. Despite this setback, Real Madrid believe they must accelerate the agreement they already have with the right-back, which is set to take effect from 30 June.

The Spanish giants are keen to bring Alexander-Arnold to the Santiago Bernabeu this month rather than waiting for the summer.

Liverpool, however, are reluctant to part with their star defender mid-season. According to sources close to Real Madrid, club officials are now banking on Alexander-Arnold's influence to convince Liverpool's hierarchy to sanction a move in January.

Reports suggest the England international has already expressed his desire to join Los Blancos, with Marca claiming his decision to leave Anfield was made as early as mid-December.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is historically averse to making major signings in January. The club's last winter acquisition was Reinier in 2020, which did not yield the expected results. However, the need for reinforcements has forced a change in strategy, with Alexander-Arnold viewed as a key piece for the current and future success of the team.

Discussions about Alphonso Davies have also gained momentum. The Canadian international has reportedly declined Bayern Munich's renewal offer, paving the way for a potential summer move to Madrid. Negotiations are reportedly progressing well, and Madrid are optimistic about securing Davies' services for next season.

In addition to the two full-backs, Real Madrid are also exploring options to bolster their centre-back positions. Aymeric Laporte, currently with Manchester City, has been identified as a potential target, though any pursuit will be approached with caution.

With the transfer window nearing its close, Real Madrid face a race against time to finalise deals. While Alexander-Arnold remains the priority for January, the club's defensive overhaul is expected to take full shape by the summer.
