Real Madrid's bid for Trent Alexander-Arnold rejected by Liverpool

Real Madrid approached Liverpool on New Year's Eve in an attempt to secure Trent Alexander-Arnold ahead of the winter transfer window, which officially opened on January 1.

However, Liverpool promptly rejected Madrid's interest in their vice-captain.

Despite having less than six months remaining on his current contract, Alexander-Arnold has yet to inform Liverpool of any intentions to leave.

The 25-year-old right-back is now eligible to negotiate with overseas clubs, with Real Madrid particularly keen on securing his services.

In fact, Madrid reportedly made informal contact with Alexander-Arnold's representatives in November and are increasingly confident about signing him as a free agent this summer.

Sources suggest that Real Madrid has proposed a significant contract offer to Alexander-Arnold's camp, including a large signing-on fee and a minimum four-year deal.

Rumours abound that the player is likely to sign a pre-contract agreement with Madrid this month, ensuring his move in July.

Liverpool, for their part, are in ongoing discussions with Alexander-Arnold and his representatives about a potential contract extension. However, it is unclear whether Liverpool can match the terms Madrid is offering.
