In his pre-match press conference, Ancelotti emphasised the need to restore the team's rhythm after a challenging spell, particularly following a disappointing defeat against Lille.
"Reconnecting and getting back to playing good football," he stated, highlighting the necessity of regaining focus.
The Italian manager acknowledged the confidence that can come from a winning streak but warned, "Sometimes a defeat brings you back to reality." This reality check is essential for his squad, which he believes has the potential to reach its best form.
"We are not at the level we should be, but we are close. We have players who are not yet at their peak, and patience is needed," he added.
Ancelotti pinpointed the team's need to improve both the intensity of their ball circulation and defensive efforts. While he expressed some concern about their passing, he reassured fans, saying, "I don't believe we lack a playmaker. We have a variety of talent, Camavinga, Modric, Valverde, Bellingham, who can all create. It's not about missing something; we just need to show it."
The coach also commented on Kylian Mbappe's situation with France, stating, "I don't want to speculate on what the selectors will decide. Mbappé had an issue that seems resolved, but not fully.
"Discussions have taken place between the club and national team doctors."
Looking ahead to the Villarreal match, Ancelotti believes it presents a significant opportunity for his team to respond positively.
"Villarreal are performing well, and tomorrow will be a tough match, but it's a new chance to show our best side," he concluded, reiterating the importance of reconnecting and rediscovering their footballing identity.
