Despite their early qualification with four consecutive victories, Carlo Ancelotti's squad are determined to maintain momentum against Napoli, steering clear of complacency amidst crucial La Liga fixtures on the horizon.
Real Madrid veteran Dani Carvajal, a stalwart right-back, shared his insights on the team's mindset ahead of the Napoli clash during the pre-match press conference. Carvajal affirmed, "Totally focused on the match against a very tough opponent, Napoli, and with the objective of finishing first in the group."
However, the Spanish giants find themself grappling with a string of injuries, side-lining eight key players for the impending contest. Carvajal, undeterred by the setback, sees this as an opportunity for less frequently featured players to shine, fostering unity within the squad. "It's not good, but it opens up this opportunity to people with few minutes and, in the end, it might bring the dressing room closer together. I am convinced that they will help us," he asserted.
Amidst the challenges posed by injuries and the demanding fixture schedule, Carvajal addressed the strain on players, acknowledging the difficulty of maintaining peak performance. "With elite, international players playing in Europe, it's true that the calendar is very demanding. We won't have much of a summer. There are too many games, and it's no coincidence that there are so many injuries. It's very difficult to be 100% every three days," he explained.
Delving into his own workload and condition, Carvajal emphasized his commitment to the team, stating, "I'm a player who doesn't measure myself, I don't tend not to give my maximum. It's true that you know your body and you know how you get there. And I'm already talking about it with the coach."
As the discussion shifted to arch-rivals Barcelona, Carvajal maintained focus on Real Madrid's objectives. Regarding a potential encounter with Barcelona in the future, he asserted, "We focus on our own thing, and if in a few months we have to cross paths with them, we'll try to beat them."
Offering a vote of confidence in manager Carlo Ancelotti's future at the club, Carvajal praised the Italian's adaptability and preparation. "As far as I'm concerned, let him stay as long as he and the club want him to. There are few coaches who can do better than Carlo at Real Madrid," he declared, dismissing uncertainties about Ancelotti's contract renewal based on results.
Carvajal concluded with praise for in-form forward Rodrygo, highlighting the Brazilian's resilience amidst criticism. Additionally, he acknowledged the contributions of youth prospects, emphasizing the strength of Madrid's youth academy. The veteran defender also commended backup goalkeeper Andriy Lunin for his professionalism and performance in the absence of Kepa Arrizabalaga.
As Real Madrid navigate challenges on multiple fronts, the depth of their squad and the unwavering confidence in their manager stand as crucial elements in their pursuit of success.
