The announcement issued on Spurs’ social media accounts on Thursday afternoon appears to be premature given all parties involved were still discussing the centre back’s salary package as well as setting up a medical.
It’s understood these talks aren’t too far off from being concluded, with the move expected to be given the greenlight before the end of the week for the Bafana Bafana international to become Chiefs’ third signing.
The Glamour Boys have already secured the services of left back Bongani Sam from Orlando Pirates, goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari from TS Galaxy and are confident they will finalise Dortley’s personal terms.
Chiefs first made a play for Dortley in March 2022 while Spurs were still campaigning in the National First Division, but were spooked by Spurs’ asking price at the time.
The agreed amount has not been disclosed, but The Urban Warriors could do with a boost in their coffers following relegation back to the lower tier at the end of the 2023/24 season.
Dortley was part of the Bafana squad at the recent COSAFA Cup hosted in Gqeberha and led by assistant coach Helman Mkhalele as he stood in for Hugo Broos.
The defender was made captain and had been scouted by SuperSport United, who have now seemingly been beaten to his signature by Chiefs.
