The two teams lock horns at the Stade Olympique Hammadi Agrebi in Rades, Tunisia, with the second leg scheduled for Cairo International Stadium in Egypt next Saturday. Ahly are chasing their record-extending 12-times CAF Champions League titles, against an Esperance team only going for their fifth Champions League title. Ribeiro, who has also played in the same competition this season, expects a tight game between the two teams.
''Well, having played with both teams, it is one of the most difficult games to be played because it is a final. With both teams having good players, to be honest with you, I can't tell you which team will win, but I am expecting a good game from both sides,'' said Costa.
Ribeiro has a special connection with the Esperance team because it boasts two Brazilians. Yan Sasse, who made his mark in the first leg against Sundowns, and Rodrigo Rodrigues. Ribeiro, who scored three goals in the CAF Champions League this season, has maintained a close bond with his compatriots and sends his heartfelt wishes to them for the final.
''Well, I had a conversation with each of them, it wasn't an easy journey but I am happy that they have managed to reach the final,'' added Costa.
Ribeiro was part of the Sundowns team that recently lost to Esperance in back-to-back semi-final matches but missed the two-legged African Football League semis against Al Ahly late last year. These are his expectations for tonight’s game.
Meanwhile, Bafana Bafana vice-captain Percy Tau will compete in his third consecutive CAF Champions League final and fourth overall. Tau is looking forward to making history in this final.
''It is going to be important, it's a big one, I will be happy to be a part of the history of the club. This is my third final, I want to be happy at the end of the match,'' said Tau.
