Ricardo Goss eager for first taste of Tshwane Derby

SuperSport United are finally coming out of their six-week hiatus as they open their Betway Premiership campaign against reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns in tonight’s Tshwane Derby.

Matsatsantsa were last involved in official action when they lost to Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 quarter-finals on 3 August 2024.

The one plus for SuperSport is that on-loan goalkeeper Ricardo Goss now gets to play against his parent club, against whom he is targeting a clean sheet.

"The previous few seasons I haven't been playing against Sundowns, so I think it's going to be a very competitive game, and it's one that the whole team is looking forward to," said Goss.

"Obviously it's the first game of the league, and we obviously want to have a positive start – hopefully we get to start with a clean sheet, which would be a morale booster for me."

The Bafana Bafana reserve shot-stopper also believes restricting Sundowns from scoring will aid their own hopes of walking away with a rare derby win – which they last achieved over two years ago.

"We are a team that prides ourselves on keeping clean sheets, so I think if we can keep the game at 0-0 for a long time, we get a better chance of winning the game," he added.

"Last season we conceded quite a lot of goals, so this season we are looking to keep a lot more clean sheets and probably challenge for the Goalkeeper of the Season accolade, and also try to get some silverware, which would be great for me."
