Richards Bay pursue Augustine Kwem after landing Sundowns youngster

Mamelodi Sundowns have agreed to loan out 21-year-old midfielder Thando Buthelezi to Richards Bay for the season, SABC Sport has learnt.

The Natal Rich Boys are also understood to be pursuing striker Augustine Kwem, although their chances are slim as the Nigerian is said to be eyeing a move to Azerbaijan as his first preference.

Buthelezi is yet to make an appearance in the Premier Soccer League topflight having only been part of the youth academy and being invited to train with the senior team under previous coach Rulani Mokwena and now Manqoba Mngqithi.

In an effort to further speed up his progress, the youngster will now be in a better position to get regular game time and make his Betway Premiership debut at Richards Bay, who have recently appointed coach Brandon Truter.

Both Mokwena and Mngqithi rated Buthelezi highly and he is seen as a future prospect for The Brazilians with the expectation that he will quicky get the feel of first team football elsewhere for the 2024/25 season.

Meanwhile, the public broadcaster has further established that Richards Bay are also attempting to lure free agent Kwem.

The former TS Galaxy forward parted ways with AmaZulu and is currently weighing his options – with The Natal Rich Boys being one of them.

However, it's thought that his preferred move is to go abroad at this stage.
