Rico Lewis determined to grow in stature as Man City midfielder

Versatile Manchester City youngster Rico Lewis hopes to establish himself as a regular starter in midfield over the next few seasons.

The 19-year-old is a product of the City academy side, where he played full-back, but under manager Pep Guardiola he has impressed in midfield, and admits it's become his preferred position.

"Here at City, it's probably better to be more versatile because of the formations we play and the different positions I can play in and for me at the moment I can get more minutes on the pitch playing in different positions," he told The National.

"But at some point I hope to settle into a position and I do like playing midfield the most."

Lewis signed a new contract with City in August last year, which secures his services until 2028.

The England international has made 18 appearances for City across all competitions this season, scoring one goal and providing four assists.

"Obviously, every season is different but I feel the same again," added Lewis.

"With the players we've got, there's no reason why we don't aim to try to win everything all over again.

"It's not good enough at Manchester City just to win something once and I think we can do it again."
