Robert Lewandowski's Barcelona stay secured for next season

Robert Lewandowski will continue to don the Barcelona jersey next season, putting an end to swirling rumours about his future.

The Polish striker, who signed a four-year deal in 2022 set to conclude in June 2026, had a clause in his contract that could have seen Barcelona unilaterally terminate his agreement.

The clause was inserted by Mateu Alemany, then Director of Football, as a safeguard against potential decline in performance by the forward, who would be 37 by the contract's end.

The clause stipulated that if Lewandowski did not participate in 60% of the season's matches, Barcelona could opt to rescind his contract.

However, this scenario has not come to pass. Lewandowski is on the verge of meeting that participation threshold, thus securing his position for the upcoming campaign.

Barcelona have not considered terminating Lewandowski's contract at any point, given his outstanding performance this season. He leads La Liga's scoring charts and is the top scorer in the Champions League to date, actively contending for the Golden Boot.

Despite his hefty salary exceeding 30 million euros gross this season, the club's financial recovery, particularly with the return to the 1:1 rule, has quelled any debate over his continuity. Next season, his earnings will be 26 million euros.

Lewandowski and his family are delighted in Barcelona, planning to settle in the city post-retirement in 2026.

However, there's interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia, where a significant financial offer could potentially see him end his career.

Yet, his primary focus remains on finishing the current season triumphantly with Barcelona, where he has already clinched the Spanish Super Cup and is in the race for La Liga, the Champions League, and the Copa del Rey, alongside individual accolades.
