Rodrygo's injury a blow for Real Madrid ahead of El Clasico

Rodrygo's injury a blow for Real Madrid ahead of El Clasico

Rodrygo has expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of support over his injury following Real Madrid's impressive 5-2 comeback victory over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

"Thank you for all the messages of love and support! Tomorrow I will undergo tests and, with faith, this injury won't be serious. We remain strong, always with you by my side," he posted on social media.

However, the initial assessment from the club's medical team confirmed a hamstring injury in his right leg.

This morning (Wednesday), medical staff at Valdebebas confirmed what many suspected after the match at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Rodrygo will miss Saturday's El Clasico against FC Barcelona at Santiago Bernabeu, with further details about the severity of his injury pending MRI results. The examination cannot be performed today due to bleeding, which makes it difficult to assess the exact extent of the damage.

With Barcelona looming just three days away, it seems unlikely that the Brazilian winger will be fit in time for the first Clasico of the season.

Club sources remarked, "No one knows Rodrygo's condition better than the doctors who have evaluated him, and they have conveyed that information to me." The silver lining is that Rodrygo recognised the issue early, stopping after feeling a twinge during the game. He fought valiantly for a seemingly unreachable ball in the 83rd minute, before setting up Lucas Vazquez for Madrid's third goal.

Following the goal celebration, Rodrygo was substituted, making way for Aurelien Tchouameni, as recommended by the referee.

Carlo Ancelotti lamented the injury, stating, "It's a muscular issue. He made a spectacular run for the third goal. It's a shame, but that's how it is..."
