Bafana made history by qualifying for their first AFCON semifinals in 24 years.
Williams became the first goalkeeper to save four penalties in a single penalty shootout at the AFCON, as he helped Bafana defeat Cape Verde 2-1 on penalties after playing a goalless draw after extra time.
Williams says the team’s video/match performance analyst Sinesipho Mali played a huge role in preparing for these penalties.
"I give credit to the analyst, the analysts, they prepare me, they cut so many videos, we study the clips, I study them as well, I try and pick up trends. It's not me like I said I give credit to the analyst and the goalkeeper coaches as well,” Williams said.
“They send me so many clips and my phone is full of penalty clips, so, it's credit to the analyst for doing the work because it's not easy to get footage of some of these players because they're playing all over the world. Big ups to the analyst for preparing clips for me to watch and study, they made my job 50% easier because I had an idea of where most of the players we going."
Williams, who had also made a brilliant save on the stroke of fulltime which kept Bafana Bafana in the game when they were starring defeat, reveals that the analyst (Mali), who is also an SABC Sport football analyst went as far as sourcing some of the videos of the players from his European contacts.
But it was also the 90th-minute save that Williams says was the biggest game-changing moment when he brilliantly pushed Benchimol’s shot against the crossbar.
"I mean that was key, that was probably the biggest moment in the 90 minutes. There wasn’t clear catch chances and that was one where they got behind our defence and I think it was like five minutes to go, so, for me that save stands out more than anything else today [Saturday night],” Williams added.
“I'm just proud I could keep my team in the game because they don't give me so much work to do and when my time comes I need to show up and I'm glad that I showed my worth today when called upon."
