Rowan Human downplays pressure after AmaZulu axe coach

AmaZulu midfielder Rowan Human has downplayed any sort of pressure on the players after the club sacked head coach Pablo Martin Franco and assistant coach Aitor van den Brule.

Usuthu have had an adverse start to the 2024/25 campaign, losing all three of their Betway Premiership matches thus far, with chairman Sandile Zungu wasting no time in taking action.

The club boss is known to have high ambitions for the team, with players also not spared from the axe in the past, but Human tells SABC Sport they welcome the expectations placed upon them.

''I don't think there's pressure man, I think it is a good objective that he has set for the team. For the players it is good pressure, because we do well and you don't want will happen to you in the future. I feel like we are currently in a bad situation, but it is also a positive because now we have to be a team  and come out to do our best. That's because no one wants to be in the current situation that we are in,'' said Human.

It's believed attempts to lure both Benni McCarthy and Clinton Larsen have fallen through, while Ernst Middendorp has also been linked with the vacancy, but Human says whoever comes in needs to – first and foremost – bring discipline to the camp.

''I feel a coach that is big on discipline, someone that brings the best out of the team that we have. The players that are there are amazing players, we just need someone who will bring out the best out of everyone. Not just players who are playing but also a player that is not playing to make sure that he is ready if he's called upon,'' added  Human.

The 23-year-old believes their only hindrance so far this season has been their failure to find the net, while individual errors have also led to unfortunate results.

''I think, just scoring goals. Our first game we created a lot of chances, we lost the game because of game management. It has been our own mistakes that lead us to conceding goals,'' he expressed.

Meanwhile, Human reacted to the Durban-based outfit having been drawn at home to defending Carling Knockout champions Stellenbosch FC in the round of 16.
