Five players were sent off for the incident that happened at the end of the match after Royal AM had scored their second goal to win the KwaZulu Natal Derby 2-1 in the Hollywoodbets Super League.
Mafene says the players were reprimanded internally but they are still waiting for word from the South African Football Association (SAFA) on the way forward. Speaking exclusively to SABC Sport, he described the unsavory incident as a disgrace.
''The President was not happy with the behaviour of our players, they could have just avoided things and walked away. The management and SAFA are still working on it. What happened was a disgrace, something we don't want to see again,'' said Mafene.
Mafene was speaking at the University of Pretoria Stadium where Royal AM had just brushed aside the home side in a dominant 5-2 win in the Hollywoodbets Super League clash. The Royal AM says they have been studying their opponents and came to the game well prepared.
''We came to this game prepared, with a couple of changes they made from their previous games - I have realised that they have not found their best team yet but they have quality players,'' added Mafene.
Royal AM had a very slow start, failing to register a win in the first six matches – but have since turned the corner and are unbeaten in their last six fixtures, winning four of them.
Mafene says while the aim is to lift the trophy, they first need to secure the top eight spot after their unimpressive start, then work their way up by the start of the second round. He admits that this season is not the easiest at all. Royal AM are currently eighth on the table.
