The Premier Soccer League executive committee is expected to confirm the new owners of Royal AM after a tumultuous period during which the League suffered significant damage to it's reputation and image.
The KwaZulu-Natal based club had been facing challenges that forced the PSL to postpone no less than 13 of their matches so far this season.
This included their Nedbank Cup round of 32 clash against Milford FC. who eventually received a walkover due to time constraints, with the competition progressing to the quarter-finals and teams not knowing who they would face.
SABC Sport has now gathered that a Durban businessman has purchased the club from SARS, who had placed owner Shauwn Mkhize in default of her tax obligations and appointed a curator to seize Twihli Twahla as a result.
The club is expected to remain in KZN, with sources close to the sale stating the buyer had beaten other bidders from Mpumalanga, Free State, Gauteng and even DR Congo.
On Tuesday, the players were informed of the sale and ordered to return to training on Thursday morning, with the PSL expected to make pronouncements of the deal, including logistics around their remaining fixtures and those that were earlier impacted.
A third source has also revealed that the businessman has promised huge bonuses to players as motivation to save the club from relegation, with the club currently rooted to the bottom of the 16-team premiership – sitting on eight points from 11 matches.
It also remains unclear whether the club will remain at Harry Gwala Stadium or move their home matches to Durban.
Their last time out was a 3-1 defeat to TS Galaxy on 29 December, with their next fixture penciled to be against Magesi FC on 5 April, pending an announcement from the League.
