Royal AM stuck to the game plan - John Maduka

The 3-1 score line in favour of Royal AM against Golden Arrows in the Nedbank Cup on Saturday was flattering, but coach John Maduka says they stuck to the game plan.

Arrows dominated possession and still failed to convert their chances despite forcing the clash to extra time.

It was the visitors who registered their third successive win over them this season to progress to the quarterfinals of the cup.

"We allowed them to have the ball because whenever they had it, I didn't think they could hurt us. We played well, the boys showed character especially going to extra time. We needed real men to show that they're strong and the boys did exactly that and I am proud of them," Maduka said.

Royal AM broke the deadlock through a penalty kick from defender Ricardo Nascimento before striker Knox Mutizwa levelled matters.

In extra time, Levy Mashiane scored twice to execute what Maduka insists was the instruction from the beginning.

"We knew that with them having two players in their defense, we will be able to pass them. It takes a second to score a goal and that's exactly what happened, we scored the second goal and then again, we score the third goal," he concluded.
