Rulani Mokwena reveals Downs’ challenge with Komphela-led Swallows

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena says one of the ways to beat a Moroka Swallows side led by an ex-staff technical staff member in Steve Komphela is to play with authority in their own backyard.

Komphela spent three seasons with the Brazilians and is privy to details he will use to his advantage when the two sides meet in the MTN8 quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Mokwena admits it’s a challenge planning to outsmart Komphela.

"He knows us very well but football is played on the pitch, you know. So, I always say, the game belongs to the players. At the end of the day for the 90 minutes, we have to do the best that we can to impose ourselves to try to get some of the pictures out and hopefully, we do that well enough to give ourselves a very good chance to win the game," Mokwena said.

Under Komphela, the Dube Birds are yet to win following a draw and a defeat against Golden Arrows and Cape Town City, respectively.

Mokwena picked up the possible key battles from those two fixtures.

"Well, I've only been at liberty or the luxury to see two games so far. I watched last night, Golden Arrows, an interesting game also, very flexible in the organisation of forms. I got a glimpse of Cape Town City also and made one or two changes but still very aggressive with the full-backs and some very interesting pictures that we saw," Mokwena added.
