SABC becomes official partner in TS Galaxy vs FC Augsburg

The South African Broadcasting Corporation is thrilled to announce an exciting partnership with TS Galaxy FC, as it will broadcast the much-anticipated Mpumalanga Premier’s International Cup.

The tournament will culminate with TS Galaxy FC of the South African Premier Soccer League taking on FC Augsburg from the German Bundesliga on 27 July 2024 at 15h00. This international club friendly match will be live on SABC Sport in partnership with the TS Galaxy Foundation.

Augsburg, which was founded in 1907 and is the largest football club in Swabian Bavaria with 25,000 members, was promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time in 2011, where it has remained ever since. 

In the 2015/16 season, FCA played in the Europa League for the first time.

The friendly international matches will commence on 20 July 2024, with FC Augsburg set to play against Tanzanian record champions Young Africans SC at 15h00, before The Rockets face Eswatini league champions Mbabane Swallows FC at 20h00.

All of which will also be broadcast live on SABC Sport – both matches will take place at Mbombela Stadium.

TS Galaxy Foundation Chairperson Tim Sukazi added: "We are very ecstatic to have managed to bring a German Bundesliga Club to our shores. 

"In as much as the primary objective of the matches is to prepare both TS Galaxy FC and FC Augsburg for their respective league competitions, the biggest beneficiary will be the ordinary South African audience who will watch a German Bundesliga club playing in South Africa, which is a rare event. 

"It is also fulfilling that FC Augsburg wish to achieve a long-standing partnership with TS Galaxy FC that will see rural communities in and around Mpumalanga deriving certain benefits through the partnership that has been formed between the two clubs. 

"We would also like to thank the SABC for coming on board as a broadcast partner."

FC Augsburg CEO Michael Ströll explained: "It impressed us how much effort the TS Galaxy Foundation, together with the local authorities, put in for us to be able to come to South Africa for the first time. 

"We are very much looking forward to the upcoming trip to Mpumalanga and the two matches at Mbombela Stadium, one of the venues for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. FC Augsburg is proud to represent the Bundesliga in South Africa."

The broadcast of the matches will not only entertain sports enthusiasts, but also promote cultural exchange and international sporting solidarity. It highlights the global appeal and unifying power of football. SABC Sport is also the official broadcaster of the Bundesliga.
