SAFA President unpacks what the renewed partnership with the SABC entails

South African Football Association (SAFA) President Danny Jordaan says the renewed four-year partnership with the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) will go a long way to impact the coverage of grassroots and women’s football.

This comes after the two parties’ annoucement to extend their long-standing partnership which spans over 30 years. Jordaan says the next step will be to intensify coverage for the Hollywoodbets Super League.

''Hollywoodbets came and sponsored the league, now the next step is to increase the television coverage of the matches and we are getting there, if we can tick that box, we will have a fully professional league.

Television is very important, if you have a match and it is a village match and don't have coverage for that match. You put it on TV, you will be elevating the match from a local match to an international match. I must say that this will take us a leap forward to develop a professional league for women's football,'' said Jordaan.

Jordaan further unpacked the importance of this particular funding model in sustaining the accessibility of football and the development of the local game in preparation for  the international stage.

''The other thing is that, FIFA has now announced that when it comes to the under-17 and under-20 world cup, they want it to take place every year. This means we have to enter the competition from COSAFA to CAF to eventually qualify. We have already started with the under-15 girls team,'' added Jordaan.

This collaboration’s priority remains to deliver comprehensive and engaging football content to viewers across South Africa, ensuring that fans have unprecedented access to live matches, highlights, interviews and expert analysis.
