SAFA promises a highly competitive Hollywoodbets Super League season

The South African Football Association Technical Director Walter Steenbok says the 2024 Hollywoodbets Super League will be nothing short of exciting.

The sixth edition of the national women’s league was launched at SAFA house Friday morning and is set to resume on Saturday, 02 March.

The league promises to continue from where it left off last season - which saw a total of 720 goals scored and Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies claiming their third successive championship title.
Steenbok told SABC Sport that he expects high competition in the new season, judging from the teams' willingness to be ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns ladies from last season.

"I think it's going to be very, very exciting. You have last year, five teams were really chasing Sundowns and if you check the gap in terms of the goals scored and the goals conceded, it wasn't really much,” Steennok said.

“Sundowns, I think after 29 matches, they had scored 95 goals and they conceded about 15 goals but the second team that was also in the running was UWC and they lost the roadmap towards the end of the league.

“So, this year they'll be trying to close the gap. They've lost some few players but you've seen TS Galaxy also they've beefed up their technical bench. So, yes we anticipate a very exciting league."

The Hollywoodbets Super League has elevated women’s football in the country for the past four years, becoming a platform for players to display their talent and in the process expose them to be identified by big clubs overseas, whilst feeding the senior women’s national team and other junior national teams with talent.
Steenbok believes the league should be supported at all costs.

"This league is the blood of South African Football Association, it has helped Banyana Banyana, it has helped Mamelodi Sundowns. So, by all means it's important that everybody supports this league. From the supporters to any other sponsors that are there."
