Saudi has made history - Renard

Saudi Arabia national team coach Herve Renard has hailed the historic result that his team managed to achieve yesterday.

This follows after shocking South American champions and two times world champions Argentina 2-1, in an opening Group C, FIFA World Cup match played in Lusail, Qatar yesterday.

In a highly charged tactical game, Saudi came back from behind to beat Lionel Messi and his Argentine team, backed by thousands of fans who had crossed the borders on the stands.

Saudi Arabia, the second-lowest ranked team in the tournament after Ghana, had interestingly adopted a high-line defence in the first half and on numerous occasions caught the speedy Argentine attack on off-sides.

Renard says the history that was recorded in Lusail yesterday, will stay with them for years to come.

“I decide to reach this country three years and half ago, since this time I have the management, the president-amazing president, [and]the minister of sport” Renard explained.

“They were always behind us even when we visit our prince two three weeks ago, he didn’t put any pressure on us. This is a way you have to walk in football because when you put too pressure it’s not working all the time.

“So we made history for Saudi football, it will stay forever. This is the most important.”
