Sead Ramovic puts Mamelodi Sundowns defeat down to lack of depth

TS Galaxy coach Sead Ramovic has suggested their 3-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns in the DStv Premiership on Monday night was due to a lack of depth.

Hosts Sundowns got two goals from striker Peter Shalulile and then added a third from attacker Thembinkosi Lorch.

The Serbian mentor believes had they been able to rotate their squad, having just played Moroka Swallows on Friday night, then The Rockets might have been able to compete and run the log leaders close.

''You have to understand we have a smaller squad, we played now three days ago and it's not easy when you play with the same squad,'' said Ramovic.

Sundowns were also in action on the same night Galaxy beat Swallows, suffering a 1-0 defeat to Esperance to be eliminated out of the CAF Champions League.

Ramovic insists the Sundowns squad numbers worked in their favour.

''It's easy for them to get fresh legs in, but that should not be an excuse. We prepared ourselves but we were not close enough,'' added Ramovic.

With TS Galaxy currently in fifth place on the table and set for their best finish in a season under Ramovic, the coach said he would not be harsh on the players after failing to end Sundowns’ unbeaten run.

''We have to analyse and we have to improve at this stage, and the game will come,'' he concluded.

Asked about the red card to winger Orebotse Mongae on Sundowns midfielder Bongani Zungu, with five minutes to go Ramovic dismissed claims by his counterpart Rulani Mokwena that the tackle was intentional.
