Sean Dyche optimistic as Everton eye ending winless streak against Burnley

Dominic Calvert-Lewin's late penalty - his first goal since October - rescued Everton a crucial point at Newcastle in midweek and they next face Dyche's former club Burnley on Saturday in a crunch clash at Goodison Park.

Everton have not tasted victory in the top flight since mid-December when beating Burnley 2-0 at Turf Moor to extend their winning run to four matches.

Dyche, whose side have gone 13 league games without a win, told a press conference: "It doesn't seem two minutes ago that we were winning four on the trot, scoring freely and keeping clean sheets.

"It's just, as if by magic, you are on a tough run and everyone is making a noise about it. That's life in football. Correcting that is the key.

"We showed very strong signs at Newcastle of correcting that. We've got to continue with that thought process and performance level."

Dyche spent almost 10 years in charge of Burnley before he was sacked in April 2022 and succeeded Frank Lampard as Everton manager the following January.

"My knowledge is pretty good of the stats and facts of Premier League football and what brings winning football," Dyche said.

"I have not corrected it so far in this run, but I think that I have got a depth of knowledge that suggests when we do things right and I play the way that we should be playing then we can correct that and that's what we will be looking to do."

Dyche twice won Premier League promotion as Burnley boss and delivered European football to the club for the first time in 51 years when guiding them to a seventh-placed finish in 2017-18.

"I don't see them as much different (now) in the sense that they are giving their all, they have got a youthfulness, they have got energy about them, they have got some quality," Dyche added.

"They spent a lot of money on players to try to build on what they achieved last season in the Championship.

"Obviously it has been a tough season and not just for them - it has been a tough season for us and for many others because the Premier League is tough. Their challenge is what it is. It is nothing to do with me now.

"I always respect Burnley Football Club and always will do, but the fact is that when the whistle blows there will be no respect then.

"We have got to look after ourselves and deliver a performance that can beat them."
