Sekhukhune edge Chippa to advance to Nedbank Cup semis

Sekhukhune United edged Chippa United 2-1 at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Sunday to book their place in the Nedbank Cup semifinals.

Sekhukhune were gifted the opening goal within a minute after there was a lapse of concentration from the Chippa defence with Babina Noko striker Elias Makwana gratefully accepting the opportunity and punishing the Chilli Boys.

It was a fairly even contest with the sides sharing the possession within ten minutes. Chippa equalised in the 16th minute when Etiosa Ighodaro headed home from a corner.

That goal seemed to galavanise the visitors, but it was Sekhukhune who got themselves back in front when Makwana's dinked ball found Chibuike Ohizu, who slotted home for the lead on the stroke of half-time.

Sekhukhune were well on top but Ighodaro almost equalised for the Gqeberha outfit against the run of play when he rose highest but his header went narrowly wide.

There were few clear cut chances from then on out, with the men from the Eastern Cape unable to find a way back into the game.
