Sergio Gomez thrilled to embark on 'new adventure' at Real Sociedad after leaving Man City

Understudy Manchester City left-back Sergio Gomez is looking forward to a new chapter in his career after leaving the Premier League Champions for Real Sociedad in search of regular first-team football.

The 23-year-old moves after two seasons at the Etihad Stadium in which he made 38 first-team appearances and won six trophies without establishing himself as a regular in the side.

The deal for the Spaniard, who joined City after a spell at Anderlecht, could be worth up to £8.4million, and also includes a sell-on clause of 30 per cent of any future fee.

Gomez was a member of the squad that won the treble of Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup in 2023 and retained the domestic title last season.

He told the club's official website: "It's time to leave Manchester City but I'd like to thank everyone at the CFA (City Football Academy) for their support and guidance during my time at the club.

"Being part of such a talented, ambitious and successful squad was a true honour and winning a host of major trophies, including the treble, is something I will never forget and will always look back fondly on.

"I am excited for this new adventure but I wish Pep Guardiola and the players every success in the future."
