Sinoxolo Cesane aiming to maintain club form in Banyana friendlies

Banyana Banyana striker Sinoxolo Cesane is hoping to bring her good club form into the national team ahead of the back-to-back friendlies against Senegal next month.

Cesane is the only overseas-based player to have joined Banyana in the current camp, with several high-profile and senior figures given time off by coach Desiree Ellis.

The 23-year-old is enjoying a great spell at her new club Mazatlan FC in the Liga MX Femenil, with five goals in 15 games, and told SABC Sport playing in Mexico has taught her to become a hungry striker.

"My experience as a professional player will add to the team here, since I play with my team in Mexico as a midfielder and a forward, and I score goals, so I know what it's like to be a hungry striker," said Cesane.

"And [because] I've become a goal scorer overseas, I believe here I will bring that performance into the team, and I hope I score two or more goals in these two games."

Ellis aims to use the two friendlies against the West Africans to assess the future of the national team ahead of the WAFCON and the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Cesane hopes for positive results as the team starts with their rebuilding phase.

"In the coming games, I hope for a win against Senegal, and I believe we will and could win because of how we play as a nation," she added.

"The preparations in training will help us to the game, if we show confidence and the mind of a winner, overall I think we will win."
