Stellies agree Austria deal for Chiefs target Antonio van Wyk

The transfer, however, remains subject to the junior international passing a medical and being given a work permit to allow him to travel to Europe.

It’s understood Van Wyk was in the final year of his contract with Stellies and had attracted interest from Kaizer Chiefs, who were hoping to snap him up as a future prospect either this season or at the end of his current deal.

But SV Ried, who campaign in the second division in Austria, moved swiftly to communicate their intentions.

Van Wyk becomes the second player this month to be sold by the club from The Winelands after Orlando Pirates bought captain and right back Deano van Rooyen and Mamelodi Sundowns triggered the buyout clause for striker Iqraam Rayners, leaving the Stellies squad thin.

Stellenbosch promoted Van Wyk to the senior team from their academy in July 2021 and had expected him to be one of the key players again this season having made an impressive 34 appearances last season.

It explains why Chiefs had suddenly put the 22-year-old on their shop window and had made an informal enquiry about his services.

The public broadcaster has now been informed that SV Ried have concluded the deal and are now waiting for Van Wyk to arrive for a medical before an official announcement is made regarding the transfer.
