Striker crisis haunts SuperSport United yet again

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt believes they were the better team away to Cape Town City, but once again failed to score.

It’s been Matsatsantsa’s biggest setback so early on in the Betway Premiership with their goal ace Bradley Grobler out injured.

Hunt gave his analysis on the 1-0 defeat at Athlone Stadium on Saturday night.

''I thought we did well. In the first half before they scored we had two great chances and didn't take them. We played better, we were pursuing a better team, no doubt about it at the beginning - then they got the goal and obviously played in the turnover and we just couldn't connect with the final ball, the final pass in the back.

But I thought before they scored, we were in control, there was no danger. Yes they had a few breakouts but for an away team I thought we were good. And of course they scored and we started chasing, that's it,'' said Hunt.

It’s also been a slow start for SuperSport, with the defeat to City their second in four league matches so far. Hunt admitted he was still aiming to find a balance following the arrival of new recruits.

''We play the young players. We play with a lot of young players - you just try to put them upfront. We obviously trying to get the balance right, why did we drop off in the second round because we needed a little bit of experience. I thought Mobbie is coming, he's been magnificent, we have good business there. Sinoka s coming, he's been brilliant. Neo is young, we lost our left side player and our right-back, we loss quite a few and have to try and build. I mean we finished with two nineteen year old upfront,'' added Hunt.

Hunt also gave an update on Grobler, stressing again how thin SuperSport are upfront especially with Gamphani Lungu and Grant Magerman still missing.

''Well, it's very difficult because when we build they move on, so what do you want me to do? It's 20 goals per team, I mean where will you get the 20 goals? We played Pirates, we had big chances 1-1 the first game. It is taking off, well it's January or February, could be December but he is walking now. Lungu is injured, and  Grant Magerman for starters, you know,'' he expressed.

With the situation Hunt has been dealt with, the coach said he would use the FIFA break to find solutions while key players are on the mend.
