SABC Sport has it on good authority that the Brazilians are set to make the 28-year-old their fifth signing ahead of the new season and the fact that Aubaas was omitted from taking part in Galaxy’s exhibition match in KwaMhlanga over the weekend suggests his move will go through.
Bathusi has been the subject of much speculation over the last several weeks on the back of making his national team debut under coach Hugo Broos when Bafana beat Morocco 2-1 at FNB Stadium in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier last month.
The player has been linked to both Soweto giants Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, but it is Sundowns who are winning the race.
Downs, the reigning league champions, have already signed midfielder Lesiba Nku, Junior Mendieta, Thapelo Maseko and striker Lucas Costa.
Bathusi would be adding depth to an already strong department at Chloorkop, while TS Galaxy continue with their business model to sell their best players to keep the club afloat as has been confirmed by chairman Tim Sukazi.
The Rockets have managed lucrative transfers for goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi to Pirates, captain Given Msimango, who joined Chiefs, while left back Tshegofatso Nyama moved to Cape Town City and now Bathusi is expected to sign for Sundowns.
Bathusi leaving Galaxy doesn’t come as a surprise considering his trajectory – playing in 26 of the 30 league games for the club last season.
According to SABC Sport sources, the two clubs are now at an advanced stage for the deal to go through having agreed on the transfer in principle.
