Lelona Daweti hoping USA learnings will help Sundowns Ladies

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies forward Lelona Daweti hopes the experiences and learnings of their recent USA trip will help them achieve more greatness.

Banyana ba Style travelled to the Women’s Cup in Kansas City and lost two matches, returning home without scoring a goal, but Daweti insists the learnings were far more valuable for the Hollywoodbets Super League defending champions.

Sundowns Ladies return to domestic football this weekend after a two week break due to the USA tournament.

“We gained very good experience that side, they really invest in women's football. Yes we have lost two games but that does not take away how good we are, and how we can maintain this style of play. We have learnt that there's a much quicker way of moving the football, we learnt not to give the ball too much. We want to take the lessons into South African football,'' said Daweti.

Sundowns Ladies are still top of the league log standings with 10 matches remaining to the end of the season, and Daweti says consistency will be key in retaining their title.

''Consistency is very important, it builds the team's confidence. The next ten games will not be easy but we have to protect what is ours. We need to win games and win the league because if we don't win the league, we will miss out on CAF next season,'' added Daweti.

After the trip to the USA, the Brazilians’ first assignment is against the stubborn and hard-running University of Johannesburg who are third on the table and one of the strong league title contenders.

''We are well rested. We are looking forward to playing against UJ this Sunday, they are a very good team but we just have to keep playing our best football,'' she concluded.

Daweti says they have taken note of the good work done by UWC at the CAF Women’s Champions League COSAFA qualifiers in Malawi, and they could return to league football stronger.
