Sundowns are just a point clear at the top with 16 points, after six matches played in this campaign, with the University of Western Cape in the second spot with a game in hand, followed by University of Johannesburg and Durban Ladies tied on 12 points. Nhlapo says this is developing to be a tight season.
"Honestly speaking, it's very tough season for us this year. For me, it tells you that women's football us growing and teams know how we play now. I think their coaches are doing a very good job because they have now watched how we play, how we move and they are starting to jell with the movements of Sundowns. This season is a very hard one," she said.
Sundowns will play another Tshwane derby today against bitter rivals Tshwane University of Technology just a week after narrowly beating the newly promoted University of Pretoria. Last season, TUT finished third on the log behind Sundowns and UWC but this season they are currently sixth on the log, eight points behind the Brazilians. This is the competitiveness Nhlapo is referring to.
"I'm very proud that atleast this year we are getting a lot of competition. It doesn't have to be easy for us. It's always very nice when the league is very competitive, other than us winning with eight or nine goals. If we win 2-1 or 1-0 then it tells you that the competition is getting tougher and tougher," she concluded.
