The 19-year-old says their goal is to collect three points in every game they play going forward. Banyana Ba Style currently lead the log standings on 38 points, three ahead of the second-placed team, the University of Johannesburg. The Brazilians have won 12 out of 15 games so far, with two draws and one defeat. They next face newcomers University of Fort Hare on Saturday.
''I think we are doing quite well in the season so far, and we have only just reached the halfway mark of the season. Our goal now is to not drop any more points than we already have and we need to keep pushing for three points in every single game,'' said Sauls.
Sauls believes they are under constant pressure because of the high standards they have set themselves, and also the position they occupy on the table.
''I think there will always be a lot of pressure for Sundowns, only because we have set a high standard for ourselves and pressure will be on the team at the top. But if we just continue working hard at training, playing well and focus on ourselves - that is all that matters,'' added Sauls.
Sauls is a product of JVW FC, whom she joined as a tiny 12-year-old, going through the JVW Schools League and ending up in the first team. She helped the Bedfordview-based team to a fourth finish in 2022 and an even improved third spot last season before heading off to Sundowns Ladies.
Sauls admits there are a lot of differences between JVW and her current employers, but she has managed to adapt well.
With an array of stars at their disposal, it’s always difficult to get game time at Sundowns Ladies every week – but the former South African U17 and U20 Women’s National team player says she knew about the competition before signing on the dotted lines.
