Sundowns maintain perfect league record after beating Royal AM at Loftus

Mamelodi Sundowns made it four wins from four in this season's Betway Premiership after beating Royal AM 2-1 at Loftus on Wednesday.

The seven-time defending league champions move level with Orlando Pirates at the top of the table as the only two teams with a perfect record so far this campaign.

Masandawana made a strong start to the contest when Sphelele Mkhulise broke the deadlock in the sixth minute with a calm finish.

Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi recalled Bafana Bafana duo Khuliso Mudau and Teboho Mokoena to the starting line-up after the pair sat out the last few matches due to "tactical" reasons.

Home goalkeeper Ronwen Williams was eventually called into action just before the halftime break, saving smartly from a long-range effort.

The visitors showed some dogged defence to keep Sundowns at bay for most of the match as the score stayed 1-0 for a long period.

Sundowns finally found the second five minutes from full-time when Mudau latched onto a loose ball inside the box and buried his shot into the back of the net.

Royal AM scored a consolation in referee's stoppage-time when defender Sbangani Zulu rose highest to beat Williams with a header from a corner.

Sundowns next face a trip to Polokwane City on Sunday while Royal AM will hope to bounce back when they host Sekhukhune United on Saturday.
