This slight decline follows their 38th place position in June.
Despite this slip, the Super Eagles retained their status as the fifth-best team in Africa. Morocco continues to lead the African rankings and are ranked 14th globally, followed by Senegal, Egypt, and Ivory Coast, before Nigeria rounds out the top five.
Globally, Argentina remained at the pinnacle of the rankings, holding the top spot, followed by France, Spain, England, and Brazil. The top ten is completed by Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, Colombia, and Italy.
Positions 11 through 20 feature Uruguay, Croatia, Germany, Morocco, Switzerland, USA, Mexico, Japan, Senegal, and Iran.
Nigeria's points tally stood unchanged at 1,498.93 from June, even though their global ranking dropped. The team's significant decline in June, when they fell from 30th to 38th, was attributed to subpar performances in World Cup qualifying matches.
The current rankings were released following a busy period that included three continental competitions and numerous international friendlies, with 125 matches played worldwide.
Argentina solidified their top position by successfully defending their Copa America title. France held onto second place after reaching the semi-finals of EURO 2024. Spain, the newly crowned European champions, climbed five spots to third.
England moved up to fourth, surpassing Brazil, which slipped to fifth. Belgium also experienced a drop, falling three places to sixth.
The next FIFA world ranking will be published on September 19, 2024, and football fans will be keenly watching to see how the Super Eagles and other teams fare in the coming months.
