SuperSport United have added an international striker to boost coach Gavin Hunts young squad this season, SABC Sport has established.
The club has managed to secure the services of Namibian forward Benson Shilongo on a two-year contract, getting him back to the Premier Soccer League following a little over three seasons in Egypt.
Shilongo played for the now-defunct Platinum Stars prior to moving to North Africa, so there is some familiarity to the local DStv Premiership.
His arrival follows that of Orlando Pirates midfielder Siphesihle Ndlovu, as reported by SABC Sport on Monday night review show SoccerZone.
Ndlovu is expected to be confirmed as a SuperSport player in the coming days along with Shilongo - a striker who will provide competition to Bradley Grobler as well as Thamsanqa Gabuza, and may actually take over if he hits form.
The 30-year-old has nine goals in 34 appearances for Namibia and will now relish the opportunity to try and dispose his compatriot Peter Shalulile of the Golden Boot, although the Mamelodi Sundowns talisman is already running away with it.
Matsatsantsa also has a young striker in Thabang Sibanyoni, who was signed on loan from Sundowns, after he had spent the previous season at the University of Pretoria in order to gain experience and get regular game time in the National First Division - now rebranded The Motsepe Foundation Championship.
But Sibanyoni has struggled with consistency, hence, according to sources at the club, Shilongo has been brought in on a free transfer to offer Hunt options.
The signing of Shilongo and Ndlovu brings the total of new recruits at the Tshwane outfit before the registration window closes next week to seven.
