SuperSport United teenager Shandre Campbell set for move to Europe

SuperSport United youngster Shandre Campbell is closing in on a potential move abroad, with Belgian outfit Club Brugge the most recent European outfit to enquire about the winger’s availability, SABC Sport has established.

It is believed SSU are resigned to losing the 18-year-old during the upcoming transfer window and do not expect him to still be on their books for the 2024/25 season – the Tshwane side are open to a deal where all parties involved are satisfied.

Campbell was promoted to the senior team by coach Gavin Hunt at the beginning of the previous campaign following the sale of attackers Thapelo Maseko as well as Patrick Maswanganyi to Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, respectively.

Hunt handed the teenager his debut against Richards Bay in the opening match of their DStv Premiership campaign, where Campbell chipped in with an assist and was voted Man of the Match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Since then, Campbell has made a total 30 appearances for the Matsatsantsa and is nominated for the Young Player of the Season award.

The public broadcaster has been led to believe SuperSport are already making plans to be without the youngster next season and looking for a replacement either via going into the market or promoting another future star from their academy.

Approached for comment, Campbell’s agent confirmed, as he has always maintained in previous interviews with SABC Sport, that Prosport International were continuously looking for opportunities abroad for the player.

Mike Makaab responded with a simple “highly unlikely”, when asked if Campbell was still expected to be part of Hunt’s squad ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, which is set to kick off around the first week of August.
