The Chilli Boys managed a 2-1 victory at the Hammarsdale Stadium to deny their hosts a spot in the next round thanks to goals from Sinoxolo Kwayiba and an own goal from Brandon Theron.
It was September’s first win since taking over the reins from Kwanele Kopo, who resigned from the club on New Year’s Eve.
September says the display from the players was pleasing to the eye.
"I think it was a good game or cup game both teams played to win, there was no team that was sitting back. A good display of football, a passing game, we know Golden Arrows is a good team in terms of passing so we tried to do better than them in that and I felt it was a good game for people to watch,” September said.
“Happy for the results definitely and we hope to build from this moment.”
The Chippa mentor now hopes his own story as a cup winner with SuperSport United during his playing days can be an inspiration to the squad.
"I forgot to mention that to them coming into this game that I played and scored in a final but yeah, [I] always motivate them, you know you've got something to play for and the players were motivated on their own I think,” he added.
“Mabhuti [Khenyeza] tried to work the psychology that is coming from Golden Arrows players that they will come and do it for the coach, do it for their families but these are professional players at the end of the day, they have to work and work for them is to win games."
