The coach of the season would be me - Rulani Mokwena

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has made a strong case why he should be handed the Coach of the Season award.

The Brazilians mentor was asked who he thought was deserving of the accolade as the DStv Premiership draws to a close.

Mokwena, without any hesitation, insisted it should be him.

"The Coach of the Season would be me, that's what I think. I think the Coach of the Season must be the coach that wins the league but I can't not give lots of compliments to the work that Steve Barker has done. He deserves incredible, incredible, incredible plaudits for the work he's done at Stellenbosch," Mokwena said.

Sundowns wrapped up the defense of their league title with seven games to spare and Mokwena has already eclipsed Pitso Mosimane’s 71-points haul in a single season.

He did acknowledge Orlando Pirates counterpart Jose Riveiro as well.

"And many of my other colleagues, I mean there's been some very good work that's been done. Jose Riveiro, Pirates has done some very good work but without sounding arrogant, the Coach of the Season in my opinion would be me, for sure and I have no doubts about it," Mokwena added.

His Stellenbosch FC counterpart Steve Barker agreed.

"Rulani, by a country mile, I mean 22 points ahead of us and they've got a game in hand. He deserves it to keep a winning team winning, like you said it's not easy. The respect I have for him and Sundowns is that although they've so much they still want to win more," Barker said.
