France defender Theo Hernandez has set his sights on winning the World Cup for his injury-stricken brother Lucas Hernandez.

Both left-backs, the brothers are separated by just a year in age. Theo plays for AC Milan, while Lucas plies his trade with Bayern Munich.

Lucas is first-choice left-back ahead of Theo but the former ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in the 4-1 opening round World Cup win over Australia and left the field in tears. It has since been revealed that Lucas even considered retiring afterwards but has been persuaded to play on.

Lucas has gone home but Theo says he calls his brother everyday to support him in a difficult time as he comes to terms with World Cup heartbreak, surgery and what will be a long and gruelling road to recovery.

"His injury was very bad news for us. It's not easy for him, either, because it's also a really long injury," said the 25-year-old Theo, who is one year younger than his brother," says Theo.

"I've been talking with him on the phone every day since he left Qatar. I want to play in every match here because I want to bring the trophy back for him."
