Los Blancos are set to face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League and arch-rivals FC Barcelona in a crucial La Liga clash, both at the Santiago Bernabeu.
However, first, they must navigate a tricky away fixture against Celta Vigo, where Courtois' potential return could make all the difference.
Courtois has been sidelined for almost three weeks due to an abductor injury in his left leg, sustained during the Madrid derby on 29 September. While his recovery is progressing well, with the Belgian shot-stopper recently stepping back onto the training pitch, the coaching staff is cautious about rushing his return.
Ancelotti confirmed Courtois' injury in a press conference and emphasised the importance of a full recovery, especially during this injury-plagued period for Real Madrid.
"Thibaut is crucial for us, but we won't take unnecessary risks," Ancelotti explained. "We have to manage the situation carefully, especially with the challenging fixtures coming up."
Madrid's defensive issues have only worsened since Courtois' injury, making his potential return even more vital. Andriy Lunin has stepped in as goalkeeper during Courtois' absence, with mixed results.
Despite a 1-0 defeat against Lille in the Champions League, Lunin impressed in the 2-0 victory over Villarreal, showing that he is capable of handling the pressure.
Nevertheless, Courtois' presence remains invaluable. This season, he has kept four clean sheets in 10 appearances and has only conceded seven goals in 15 matches since returning from a previous injury.
With crucial matches against Celta, Dortmund, and Barcelona on the horizon, Ancelotti are hopeful that Courtois will be available for at least one of these encounters.
However, if there's any doubt about his fitness, Lunin may continue to guard the net, as the focus remains on Courtois' full recovery for the decisive stages of the season.
