The students suffered a 4-1 defeat to a determined Limpopo side in a Hollywoodbets Super League clash on Sunday in Johannesburg.
UJ Ladies remain third on the table but trail log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies by 18 points, and are six behind second-placed University of the Western Cape, who have three games in hand.
"Yes, definitely, a very hard one, it sets us back because we were trying to run a good marathon with them, trying to see where they are and not lose sight of them but I think it's a game of football and next week we just need to dust ourselves and be better than this," Modiko said.
Dunga, as she is known to her peers, says there are several factors to that led to her team’s demise, and the loss was not what she expected.
"Very much not what I wanted, not what we planned, I think something happened in terms of our mentality, approaching this game. I think maybe tired minds, tired bodies but we'll try and work as much as possible to try and get the girls to be back. I also think the change on the starting 11, we had a couple of changes, we took out Makomo, we put in Lumko and we also took out Mavundla from the left side to play on the right side," the coach explained.
UJ Ladies will have to dust themselves off and prepare for another tough battle as they will host Limpopo’s Copperbelt Ladies on Saturday.
"I think the more you face these tough matches, the more we'll switch on mentally and I think we'll also give them the respect that they deserve, we prepare better.
“We made a lot of mistakes today and they costed us and it was well done on First Touch's part in terms of punishing us because those mistakes, I need to fight with my keeper and I need to fight with my defense as well, I think we relaxed in moments where they needed to be resolute."
